Summative
People like mystery and horror because they like entertainment and suspense. This is because people like to have fun and be surprised. Many people like puzzles, and mystery. So the puzzle of ‘who did what to who, and why?’ draws us. The mystery in the act of murder is a factor, too. Many are fascinated with crime and everyone likes to solve it for themselves, perhaps because they fear them, and they fear the sudden outbreak of violence, and fear minds we can’t think about and can’t control.
Reading or watching mystery can give them a sense of understanding of what makes someone kill, which makes people think and fear things that some people enjoy. Mysteries allow people to enjoy. There is the excitement of the chase, the thrill of knowing that these things cannot hurt us, but the sense of looking into the mind of a criminal, and what they think. In most mysteries, “justice” is done. The antagonist is punished. The right things are done, and the wrong is somewhat fixed. They can close the book or turn off the TV and think that all is good with their world.
Some people want the feeling of knowing death of other people, and the movies and stories can make you feel other people's pain, and the criminals mind.
